For coolant distribution, spiral HSS tapshave pointed taps and straight flutes. Each flute at the cutting chamfer has a slanted angular gash in order to manage the chips. As a result, the bit is most commonly used for tapping threads in through holes.
Our HSS Spiral Point Taps are coated in TiN to extend their lifespan, which makes them ideal for tapping through holes, as they push the swarf through.
Next up is our HSS Spiral Flute TiN Coated Taps. As with our Spiral Point Tap, this is available in various sizes, including M3 x 0.5, M4 x 0.7, M5 x 0.8, M6 x 1, M8 x 1.25, M10 x 1.5, M12 x 1.75, M16 x 2, and M20 x 2.5. Spiral fluted taps have flutes that wrap around the tap’s axis in a helical or spiral configuration. They are predominantly used for tapping threads in blind holes, and a spiral fluted tap pulls the chips out of the hole towards the tap shank and opposite of the tapping direction.
